Thomas Renard (b. 1983) holds a B.A. in International Relations and a M.A. in Journalism from the Université Catholique de Louvain. He also earned a M.A. in Security Studies from the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University.
In February 2009, he joined the Security and Global Governance Programme at Egmont Institute, a Brussels-based think tank. His research focuses on the rise of a multipolar order, and on the relationship between the European Union and emerging powers. Since early 2009, he has also been a member of the Multidisciplinary Network for Strategic Studies, an active network of scholars promoting the strategic debate in Belgium.
During his stay in the United States, Thomas specialised in terrorism and asymmetric warfare. He worked as a Research Assistant at the Centre for Terrorism and Intelligence Studies, where he contributed to the elaboration of the Global Terrorism Database for the Department of Homeland Security. He became an analyst for the Jamestown Foundation in December 2007. From Washington, Thomas also reported occasionally for Le Soir, a mainstream Belgian newspaper.
